Longcat 126 Posted May 26, 2009 I have an MSI laptop too, I had a problem with steam not recognizing that I had the games on my computer. Turns out it was because Steam was on a different part of the HD partition than the actual games. I dont know if that will help, but it solved my problems. AnarchyX6942 0 Posted May 27, 2009 Upgrade to W7? At least get the RC. Despite not even being released yet, I've had no problems with it.

Jason 786 Posted May 27, 2009 Okay, first we'll go with the laptop. Have you actually tried running XP on the laptop? If not, give it a go before coming to any conclusions. With the actual computer, follow these steps, and it should work again:1: If you feel okay with going inside a computer, you will want to reset the CMOS by removing the battery for around 10 minutes, with all external power disconnected. If you don't know what that means, leave it alone and skip to the next step.2: You need to do a complete format of the drive. You have numerous options, but if you want it done right, I recommend using DBAN (linky). If you go with DBAN, you can switch the mode to 1 pass, (should say something about "use this for OS/XP reinstalls") it is the fastest option, and I doubt you have need for high security file deletion. 3: Wait it out while DBAN wipes the drive, this can take a while.4: Install Windows XP again.5: Install any drivers needed, in this order: Chipset/Mobo -> Graphics -> Sound -> Monitors -> Input Devices (mouse/keyboard -> OtherIf that still doesn't work, I'd try installing Windows 7 RC. Works like a charm =D
